Clinical Lead for Cervical Screening Wales

To complement our existing team, Public Health Wales is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic Consultant or Specialty Doctor to join Cervical Screening Wales (CSW).

This is a part-time role, available for 7 sessions (27.25 hours). The Trust offers a flexible working policy to allow you to balance your family and working life. Days worked (during office hours Monday to Friday) can be agreed to suit both the individual and the Trust.

We can offer flexibility regarding the location of the office base in Wales, which will be agreed with the successful candidate. The post holder will be required to attend around two meetings per month within Wales (usually in Cardiff) routinely, or more if required.

Cervical Screening Wales as part of the Screening Division with Public Health Wales, is responsible for the NHS cervical screening programme in Wales, and aims to reduce the incidence of, and morbidity and mortality from, cervical cancer. The post holder will provide clinical leadership to all staff within Cervical Screening Wales, providing a visible clinical profile and expert advisory input into all clinical aspects of the cervical screening programme.

You will provide national leadership for the clinical aspects of the all-Wales programme for cervical screening. There are exciting and challenging times ahead within cervical screening and the related wider public health agenda, including changes to screening intervals, HPV vaccination, self-sample screening as well as the implications of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The post holder will be professionally accountable and, where appropriate, required to act autonomously in providing clinical advice and guidance to other clinical professionals based on own specialist skills, knowledge and experience of screening, colposcopy, cervical cancer, and all relevant elements of the screening programme.

The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of senior professionals in PHW and will work closely with clinical team of Nurse Specialists (currently seven across Wales) who are based at our regional sites in Swansea, Cardiff and Mold.

Applicants must have current full registration with General Medical Council and preferably be a member of a relevant professional body (e.g. FSRH, RCGP, RCOG,etc). They must have recent and relevant experience of working as a senior clinician within a service related to women’s health / elements of cervical screening programme

If qualified you will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
