Flexible, Part Time GP Roles Across North Cumbria

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Lake District offers a truly breath-taking experience. From the rugged Northern Fells to our vibrant towns and quaint villages, our region offers so much to those choosing to make the Lake District home.

Our general practice community offers a similar contrast. We have small rural practices serving predominately, local farming communities; through to large super practices, serving our urban populations.

General practitioners are increasingly looking for flexibility in their working, regardless of their career grade. As a forward-thinking CCG, we want to use this approach to support and value the work of GPs locally. Here’s how:

  • Provide opportunities for the working day to be customised around the individual’s needs
    • Adjusting the length of both sessions and whole working weeks, for example:
      • Working for 70% of a usual session
      • Offering to undertake home visits for practices in their locality
      • Supporting practices to cover unexpected rota gaps
  • Locum Matcher
    • A centralised platform for all North Cumbria practices to advertise their availability
    • Allowing for locum colleagues to easily identify shifts and contact practices directly

Our support for local general practitioners extends further:

  • We’ve developed a brand new, custom built web platform and mobile app to be a single point of access for all CPD events across our region. We’ve called it, the CLIC Academy:
    • Book, attend and export CPD points to your appraisal/revalidation system
    • Attend remote access, live streamed CPD events.

  • Our novel approach towards GP education at “protected learning time”
    • Fully funded by the CCG, small group learning amongst fellow clinical colleagues within our well established “Primary Care Networks”
    • Supported by input from secondary care specialists

  • An emerging “buddy scheme
    • Sharing experience and knowledge amongst newly qualified and senior GPs
