Canterbury, Kent & Medway

This is your chance to join Kent and Medway Medical School as we pioneer a new era of responsive, student-centred medical education. As Senior Lecturer, Lead for GP and Community Education, you will be an inspirational role model for the next generation of medical professionals - ensuring they receive the best grounding in general practice, community medicine and portfolio careers.

Kent and Medway Medical School has been created to be a beacon for first-class medical education and research. Bringing together the resources of the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, our whole ethos is one of partnership. The role of Lead for GP and Community Education involves working in close collaboration with colleagues at both Universities, and the wider health education community, to create a positive and facilitative relationship with General Practice and Community Care providers across Kent and Medway.

Reporting to the UG Programme Director, you will be supporting the development and implementation of the teaching strategy for GP and Community medicine, as well as undertaking formal School level leadership roles as required and as appropriate to your background and portfolio. A key focus will be to encourage and enable colleagues working in General Practice and Community Medicine across Kent and Medway to engage with the undergraduate teaching programme, such as via placements, Student Selected Components and 4th year Individual Research Projects.

Making a far-reaching contribution to the delivery and further development of research and teaching in General Practice and Community Medicine, your work will include leading locally relevant education and research bids and projects, designing and evaluating curriculum developments that are responsive to student and network needs, supporting our GP teachers, and engaging with a range of external organisations and networks to build strong relationships across undergraduate and postgraduate training. Student teaching and supervision responsibilities will include acting as Personal Academic Tutor and participating in MMIs, as well as OSCEs as an examiner, in addition to delivering other programmes in partner institutions, as appropriate.

To make your mark in this exciting new role, you must be an enthusiastic innovator with a healthy attitude to change and new challenges, plus a co-operative approach that matches our own. A suitably qualified, clinically registered and practising specialist in General Practice or Community Care (or equivalent), you should also have recent expertise in medical education, ideally covering: student selection, curriculum design, assessment (including admissions), use of portfolios in medical education, electronic learning and assessment, and inter-professional learning and assessment.
