We are seeking experienced GP’s who can provide credible clinical mentorship, ideally with an interest in medical education to work with ScotGEM. ScotGEM is an innovative postgraduate entry medical programme, employing a case based approach to learning. It is a 4-year course that has been commissioned by the Scottish Government with a specific remit to widen access to medicine and promote generalist careers in under-served, especially rural areas. The universities of St. Andrews and Dundee are leading this development in conjunction with the University of Highlands and Islands, NHS Boards in Fife, Dumfries & Galloway, Highland and Tayside. Fifty-five students commenced in September 2018 and we are now recruiting students and staff for 2019-20.

As a Year 2 Generalist Clinical Mentor you will have primary responsibility for a small student group (5-7 students) both in your host GP practice and at a regional clinical teaching facility. In addition, you will facilitate your group during student-led “agents of change” projects and teach your students during a bespoke “patient journey/emergency care” block for six weeks at the end of second year. An extensive staff development programme is
included in the induction period.

You will be a self-motivated, practicing GP, working in or willing to work at least two GP clinical sessions in an approved ScotGEM host GP practice; either in an existing role or as a salaried GP. In your application (if you are already a GP within the area) please include details of how you would incorporate the GCM teaching days with your current clinical commitments.
