BJGP Open Associate Editor

BJGP Open is an international, peer reviewed, open access, online-only journal of primary care, which publishes original research and other articles of importance to primary care clinicians, researchers and teachers worldwide. Content is published every 2 weeks and compiled into issues 4 times per year.

We are looking for an Associate Editor to work with the editorial team. They will be principally responsible for appraising and handling the peer review of articles submitted to BJGP Open.

The candidate will be a member of the RCGP in good standing and in active clinical practice as a GP. They will possess a detailed knowledge of primary care research and peer review, and an understanding of journal publishing processes. This is a stimulating role and offers an opportunity to further expand your skills and knowledge about academic medical journal editing and publishing. The Associate Editor will be able to contribute to the journal's vision, scope, and goals.

Key responsibilities include:

• Following triage, to arrange for peer review of manuscripts submitted to BJGP Open in line with manuscript management processes, and to make recommendations on acceptance, rejection, and revision for consideration by the Editor, meeting agreed journal targets for time to first decision.
• To communicate with and support authors, researchers, and peer reviewers engaged in the creation of journal content.
• To work collaboratively with the Editorial team in the production of online and digital content and wider communications for BJGP Open.
• To assist with the effective organisation of BJGP Open events including the BJGP Research & Publishing Conference.
• The  Associate Editor will be a member of the BJGP Open Editorial Board, and will be expected to attend Board meetings.
