The University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Family Medicine and Community Health.

 

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Miami School of Medicine is rich in history. First led by Dr. Lynn P. Carmichael, M.D., who is considered one of the founders of the discipline of family medicine, the Department went on to establish the first family residency program offered in the United States. The Department has fifteen faculty and 24 residents providing comprehensive treatment and prevention services at ten practice sites and urgent care centers throughout Miami-Dade county. In addition to their outpatient practice clinics, the Department provides services for the 1550 beds at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The Department is actively engaged in research projects funded by grants from HRSA and the Department of Defense.

 

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Chair will oversee clinical activities, with responsibility for their expansion and success in the marketplace and for achieving the delivery of high-quality and cost-effective care. The Chair will also oversee residency programs, the sports medicine fellowship, an active undergraduate educational program, and the growth of the research/scholarly operations.

 

The ideal candidate will have a current academic rank of at least Associate Professor along with a distinguished record of teaching and clinical care in an academic setting and demonstrated success as a leader within a Department or Division of Family Medicine. Candidates must be an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D., be board eligible in Family Medicine, and eligible for licensure in Florida.
