BJGP & BJGP OPEN EDITORIAL FELLOWSHIP

BJGP is a leading primary care journal, publishing research and discussion by eminent authors and commentators, ranging from clinicians to expert researchers. BJGP Open is an international, peer reviewed, open access, online-only journal of primary care, which publishes original research and other articles of importance to primary care clinicians, researchers, and teachers worldwide.

We are offering a 6-month Editorial Fellowship to get involved in medical editing, peer review, and journal production. Although the fellow will gain experience in all aspects of medical journal work across both the BJGP and BJGP Open, you will primarily participate in our manuscript handling process. This means peer-reviewing papers or sending them out to external peer-review, contributing to manuscript decisions, strategic planning meetings, and editorial board meetings. The fellow will also have the opportunity to work with our digital platforms including the commissioning, curating, and editing of multimedia content for BJGP Life. There may also be the opportunity to develop a personalised project for completion within the fellowship.

The candidate will have experience in peer-review and an interest in medical publishing. This post is most suited to GP trainees, Academic Clinical Fellowship post (ACF), and non-clinical PhD students who are considering a career in medical publishing or would like to learn more about the publishing process as early primary care researchers.

This is a part-time post to fit alongside clinical, research, or university commitments. The initial contract will be for 6 months but there may be an option to extend for a further 6 months, dependent on funding. The successful applicant will be contracted for 1 session per week — typically 4 hours of work per week. This post is paid pro-rata at £34,012 per annum, putting it line with junior doctor pay scales.
