General Practitioner - Colchester Hospital ED Streaming Service

Expand your scope in General Practice with our new Emergency Department Streaming service, in conjunction with Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust

Care UK is the country’s largest independent provider of NHS services — which means we have a constant need for the best and brightest medical talent.

With us, GPs have the opportunity to develop their skills across a whole range of services — including Walk-In-Centres, GP practices, Urgent Care Centres, Out-Of-Hours GP and Offender Health.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a GP who’s looking to broaden their clinical experience or looking for more flexible hours. We can give you the freedom and variety to develop a more fulfilling career.

We are currently recruiting GPs to a new Emergency Department Streaming Service in conjunction with Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust.  This service will operate 10am-10pm, 7 days a week, with the aim of utilising a primary care service to ease pressure on A&E and reduce patient waiting times.  GPs will be located in a dedicated, newly built, GP room co-located in the ED with a Receptionist allocated specifically for the service.

GPs will be involved in the treatment of patients referred from A&E, dealing with a maximum of 4 patients per hour on average.  These patients must meet strict criteria to be suitable for streaming to the GP service after being seen by an ED Senior Nurse.  Should there be any concerns about the health of the patient, they can be returned to A&E for further treatment.

There will also be the expectation that GPs will educate their patients, to ensure that they are able to choose the most appropriate healthcare service if they have a similar problem again.  As with our other OOH services, we use Adastra as our medical records system.

What's on offer?

GPs will be offered £80 per hour on a self-employed basis or a competitive annual salary.  Offers will also include Crown Indemnity as part of the work with the Colchester Hospital.

Should you wish you can also have access to work within Care UK's wider clinical services, to give you an extensive portfolio career.
