Professor/Reader (Clinical) of Primary Care at University of Liverpool

We are seeking a senior clinical academic general practitioner to help build our growing research expertise and focus on applied health services research which takes note of contextual factors shaping individuals’ behaviour and responses to intervention outcomes (influence of the family, community, society, organisations and environment in which they live and work). The appointment will be made at Clinical Professor/Reader depending on experience. The successful applicant will have a substantial and sustained record of high quality international publications and obtaining significant-sized competitive grants. Their field of methodological expertise might include: design and evaluation of simple/complex interventions in primary care or community settings, RCTs in primary care and/or implementation science. The successful applicant will be expected to have as a PhD/MD by research in a relevant subject area. There will be opportunities to work in a local GP practice for up to 0.2 FTE. Senior clinical academics contribute to teaching MBChB, up to 0.1 FTE, The Department of Health Services Research hosts the NIHR CLAHRC NWC, the NIHR Research Design Service, a number of NIHR fellowships, vibrant and growing Post Graduate Research, and the Liverpool Research and Implementation Group (evidence synthesis). There are close links with the Departments of Psychological Sciences and Public Health and Policy, which have international reputations especially in the areas of health inequalities research, and mental health. The University hosts two Clinical Trials Units. We have excellent relationships across the wider Faculty, CCGs NHS trusts and local authorities. This post presents an excellent opportunity to take forward innovative applied health services research which has meaning and impact for people and healthcare providers both internationally and in the local area. This is a permanent post subject to a successful probationary period.
