The Royal College of General Practitioners is the largest membership organisation solely for GPs in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1952, it has over 54,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills, and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. It provides some 1 million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and deals with 86% of the health problems experienced by the UK population.

InnovAiT is the RCGP peer reviewed journal that promotes excellence in primary care through quality education. It was developed to support Associates-in-Training (AiTs) of the RCGP from entry into specialist training to qualification. It is also a valuable resource for GP trainers, trained GPs who wish to update and maintain their knowledge base, newly qualified (First5) GPs wanting to extend their knowledge, practice and community nurses, and foundation level doctors and medical students contemplating a career in primary care.

Reporting to the GP Editor, the Assistant Editor will support the journal by commissioning articles, arranging for peer review, reviewing and editing articles, and checking article page proofs to the required standard. The candidate will be expected and encouraged to write a variety of short articles or contribute to regular features with the support and supervision of the other editors. The post offers the opportunity to learn about all aspects of authoring and publication.

Previous writing, reviewing or editing experience, and familiarity with the educational requirements of trainee GPs is desirable.  The work will be done online, remotely, and will take up 1–2 hours per week. This is a paid post.

Applications comprising a letter outlining your suitability and a CV, and any enquiries, should be sent to the RCGP Publications Manager (helen.farrelly@rcgp.org.uk) by the closing date.
