The post-holder will deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting based at University Hospital North Durham, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered & temporary patients.
In accordance with the rota ( Monday – Friday 12-8pm and Saturday and Sunday 8-1pm), as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations & queries
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers
- Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated & undiagnosed problems
- Screening patients for disease risk factors & early signs of illness
- Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current organisations disease management protocols
- Providing counselling & health education
- Referring to other care providers as appropriate
- Recording clear & contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Collecting data for audit purposes
- Compiling & issuing computer-generated acute & repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
- Prescribing in accordance with the prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
- The post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties & responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary & community care
Qualifications
- Medical Degree
- Post Graduate qualifications appropriate to general practice including vocational training
- Qualified GP
Knowledge
- Management of patients with both acute & long-term conditions
- Clinical examination protocols & procedures
- Boundaries of own role & other roles in a nurse-led service
- NSF, NICE guidelines
- Local & national health policy & wider health economy
- Clinical governance issues in primary care
- Patient group directions (PGDs) & associated policy usage
