We are recruiting to the role of GPSA Clinical Lead within the Professional Training and Standards directorate to replace the current post holder who will demit office at the end of September 2021.

Accountable to the College’s Medical Director (MD) for Quality Management and Training Standards (QMTS), and the Head of GPSA, the role is responsible for providing clinical leadership and support to the GPSA team, assisting them with the evaluation of CCT and CEGPR applications, advising on the evaluation of training programmes against CCT regulation and guidance, and making judgements as to the appropriate pathway to GP registration.

We believe that the success of GPSA depends on fresh experience and insight offered by new leadership. The successful applicant will have a sound knowledge of the regulatory framework governing postgraduate medical education and must have a good understanding of the GP curriculum in the UK and the Gold Guide. The role should be familiar with all pathways and processes for GP registration. Experience of organising GP education and training within a Deanery/Local Area Team and a broad knowledge of the assessment methodologies used in medical education and training in the UK are required.

Most of the work and meetings can be managed remotely, however the post holder will be required to travel to attend occasional meetings and spend some time in the London office with the GPSA team. The role deputises for the QMTS MD as required and chairs two meetings of the CEGPR panel a year.

The start date is 1 August 2021 which will ensure continuity and allow a two month induction and handover period. The term of this role is 12 months FTC with the possibility of an extension by mutual agreement for up to a 3 year term. As a membership organisation we believe that it is important to open up leadership opportunities to a variety of people within our membership who can bring varied experience to the medical clinician roles and it is our policy to ensure that there is a rotation of individuals undertaking the roles of Medical clinicians.

Interested applicants should supply a current CV and a covering letter outlining their reasons for applying and describing how their skills and experience match those listed in the job description. These should be emailed to Lisa Johnsen (lisa.johnsen@rcgp.org.uk), Head of GPSA
