We are looking for an experienced GP to provide excellent clinical care at HMP Five Wells, using your skills and experience to shape and develop a brand new flagship health service from day one.

HMP Five Wells will be the UK's first purpose-built, peer-led resettlementPrison.

With the expected opening in early 2022, a one of a kind new generation category C new buildPrisonfor the future;HMP Five Wellswill be an integral part of the local community. The prison will have state of the art healthcare facilities, with a range of clinical spaces both within a dedicated centre and also out on the wings with an operational capacity of 1,680 by November 2022.

In this high profile, exciting role, you will create a positive and diverse working environment leading on a number of critical areas as the prison is mobilised and subsequently opened:

HMP Five Wells is based in Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, approximately 30 minutes from Bedford, 20 minutes from Northampton and 35 minutes north of Milton Keynes by car. Public Transport links will be in place as the prison opens.

What will you be doing?

This is an amazing opportunity to lead a truly integrated team who will deliver outstanding patient care.

As the GP for HMP Five Wells, you’ll provide dynamic clinical leadership across these services. You will be pivotal in engaging the clinical workforce to support the delivery of the organisation’s objectives, and will have the chance to further develop your clinical and medical skills.

As the GP, you’ll support the Head of Healthcare in shaping the policies and strategies for developing and modernising clinical practice in order to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate healthcare services for our patients.

As a GP in HMP Five Wells you will support and be supported by a wide clinical team including primary care nurses, mental health professionals and substance misuse experts. You will work as part of this multidisciplinary team to manage complex patients and get involved with using new technologies (like telemedicine) to improve care to the population.
